TIPS WHEN MAKING STRAWBERRY WATERMELON LIMEADE
- Use ripe fresh fruit: The flavor of this drink is determined by the quality of the fruit that you are using. If you are using all fresh fruit instead of frozen strawberries then you will want to choose fresh bright strawberries, and watermelon that is sweet and ripe. The riper your fruit, the sweeter and more flavorful your limeade will be without needing to add sugar or additional honey.
- Good quality lime juice: If you don’t feel like juicing a couple of limes then you can definitely use good quality lime juice like I did. This gives the drink a nice balance.
- Blend until smooth: For the best texture, you will want to blend everything until completely smooth. Then pour your watermelon mixture through a mesh strainer to get a finer texture.
- Chill before serving: This is super important to let the drink chill in the fridge for about 30ish minutes, because it gives the flavors of the Limeade a chance to come together. It makes the drink taste even better!
- Ice: Only add ice just before serving so you don’t accidentally water down your drink!
HOW TO CHOOSE A RIPE WATERMELON
- Look for the field spot: a dark buttery yellow (not white) spot means the watermelon ripened on the vine. This is a key sign of sweetness.
- Choose dull over shiny: A ripe watermelon will have a matte, slightly rough exterior rather than a glossy shine.
HOW DO you CUT A WATERMELON?
- Wash and dry the watermelon: Rinse the outside well to remove any dirt before cutting.
- Slice off both ends: Then cut the watermelon in half. This creates a stable base and makes it easier (and safer) to cut.
- Cut away rind: Carefully cut away the outer rind in strips from top to bottom. If any of the small green parts remain, then simply trim them off with your knife.
- Cut: Next, cut the watermelon halves into large spheres, then slice lengthwise. From there, cut the fruit into smaller chunks, and it’s ready to add to your blender.
